we are the slow ones

playing catch up or searching for pieces

of broken origins reflected in ancient mirrors

or filling cracks in our dismantled backs

or my personal favorite:

answering wild winds when they call

to offer sweet samples of fluid flavors

we like to take our time

so we may find

which someones taste best

and fill us most

and whose weight we don’t mind

carrying around

on our hips and spirits and pocketbooks.
